Whatever you do, don't lose that DD214. Have it recorded at your local county courthouse. It's your VA key for the rest of your life.

Thanks, enjoy life. | Right now I've got everything - original enlistment contract to DD214 in a very large binder. Scanned, encrypted, and backed up numerous places. Next on the list is having them recorded @ the courthouse, and moving the binder to a safety deposit box or at the least a fireproof safe. Half the time you get nothing even if you can prove you're entitled. If you can't, you definitely get nothing. | | | | |

Friday, I got my DD214, and signed out of the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division after nearly 5 years. Terminal Leave feels great, even though I've spent every minute of it so far packing, unpacking, and repacking again for my move to San Marcos on Monday.
Freedom isn't free, but I've sure as heck paid my tab!
Anthony | I know how you feel. I left the Marine Corps back in 1997 and did my undergrad at TXState. I think I still have about 50 certified copies of my DD214. Easily one of the most important docs of my life.
