I went to the Dark side (iPhone & iTouch) - 06-10-2008, 09:16 PM

I said I would never get an iPhone and I have not, but I did get my wife one. She finally got caught up on these new gizmo's and I got her away from her cheap old phone. Over all its pretty cool and I put her music on it and some photos. So far she really loves it.

Then the bug got me and I wanted a new toy, so I went an got an iTouch. Its pretty cool, I just with it had built in speakers. We will be getting free WiFi access at most places around the country so I cant wait to try out my touch at work or in the coffee shop.

Now if I can just figure out this iTunes software to make my wifes music go to her phone and my music go to my touch I will be in business

James

you should've convinced her to wait a month

iTunes is pretty easy though, so you should be able to figure that out in a heartbeat

Uh, yeah, they just announced they're coming out with an 8G Iphone on July 12th that is 3G for $199... you might want to see if you can return that.

How much did you pay? The new ones will be out in July at significant price and performance difference.

You didn't have to wait.
If you bought your iPhone after May 27th, 2008, you should be able to get a free upgrade to the new iPhone when it comes out.
Though, like Andrew said, the new ones will be cheaper than the current offerings.
I would wait, however, on the iPod Touch, as sometimes in July, the 2.0 software will be available and installed on new iPod Touch, but current customers will have to pay for the software upgrade.

I said I wasn't going to ugprade my iPhone to the new version, but today, I dropped my iPhone and it cracked the glass :-(.... it still works, though.
I have about two months to wait for the new iPhone.

where did you hear it was free? It's not going to be free, you're still going to have to pay. The only thing is that even if you weren't eligible for an upgrade and you have a current iPhone you will be automatically eligible for the lowered price of 199/299 respectively.

http://gizmodo.com/5014909/att-memo-...hone-3g-policy

Quote:
Upgrade Eligibility and Qualified Upgrade Pricing
Upgrade eligibility will be determined based on standard upgrade eligibility rules. Customers must be upgrade eligible to receive the qualified upgrade pricing. However, not all customers will be qualified upgrades. AT&T has not determined the price of the 3G device for non-qualified upgrades.
All customers will be required to sign a 2-year agreement. There will not be a "no commitment" price for the iPhone 3G.
Note: When the 3G device launches, all active postpaid customers in good standing with a 2G iPhone will be eligible to receive the qualified upgrade pricing for a 3G device regardless of service tenure. (Customers that would not otherwise be eligible due to tenure will be made eligible at launch).
but if you've got something that says it's free, I'd love to see it. I'm not being a sarcastic ass, I really would because I've got one, and I know a few other people with them as well (my wife included)

we got the phone a while ago, i knew the 3g phone was coming out some time ago, but my wife could not wait. I tried to tell her several times to wait and it will be cheaper, but she wanted it then (I get an employee discount so it helps some). She is not concerned with the 3g at all, heck she is so darn tickled she can surf the web and look up movie times she does not know what to do with her self.

As long as she is happy.......Im happy

okay, I found something in the link I posted that might be what you're referring to, it is only for a certain time period the 27 through the 9th

Quote:
If a customer purchased before 5/27, we will follow BAU processes – no device returns. However, all postpaid 2G iPhone customers in good standing are upgrade eligible, so these customers will qualify to upgrade to a 3G iPhone when it is available.
If a customer purchased on or after 5/27 (within the 14-day BRE period before the product announcement on 6/9), we will let them exchange their 2G iPhone for an iPhone 3G before August 1. This means that after we launch the 3G model they can return their 2G iPhone, pay the 10% restocking fee, and purchase a new iPhone 3G before August 1.
so purchasing a phone today won't matter, they're out of the time frame and if they return it now they're going to pay the restocking fee.

ahh...well if it was within the 27th to the 9th you might be able to convince her to trade it out, and get some of your money back....that's always a plus:o

I don't get it is why they haven't announced a price drop in the itouch's. I have a 16gb but would love to have a 32gb. I paid full price for it because I'm and fool and couldn't wait for a newer/updated/cheaper version. Like Jamesb said, it would be pretty damn awesome if it had built in speakers.

I thought about upgrading my Iphone for a 3G one but its just not worth it I have a 16gig on, the edge works just fine for me and I am not willing to pay an additional $10 more a month for 3G iphone service. I had a blackjack with 3G and hardly ever had a 3G logo always kicked back to the edge network anyways.

Does anybody know if the new iphone will be $199 by itself....or do you think it will be one of those "199 after a $200 rebate" kind of deals?

Im interested to see how this plays out.

I think it's usually whatever price they announce... so probably $199. I don't think they mentioned anything about a rebate, from what I've read.

No rebates, the advertised price is what you pay for the phone. Apple finally let AT&T subsidize the cost of the phone by $200. So you Still have a 2 year contract and you have to activate it at the AT&T store just like evrey other phone.
No more buying and activating it via iTunes at home. Also apple is no longer receiving the 8 to 15% of monthly revenues from each iPhone activated on the AT&T network.
