I have the Sony XBR4 and absolutely love it. I may get a 40" for the bedroom....if the wife lets me.

Impressive display, good looking unit, does 120Hz refresh and 24fps movie mode. I watch a lot of Blu-ray movies, and it never ceases to impress me.

Vizio and Westinghouse are the same made in China brand that is currently being sued by the major TV manufacturers for patent infringment. They tend to make a product without paying for the rights to use the patents, and just cease manufacturing once they get hit with a big enough lawsuit.

cnet.com has some pretty good reviews of the current offerings.

if you go with LCD, get the set with the highest contrast ratio and Milisecond response time you can afford.

I was going to get a another LCD, as i already had a gen 1 hp 30" LCD (LCD panel is a sharp aqueous) but ended up with a panasonic 42" viera series plasma, as the price was right. Got it at sears for $929 after rebate. It's a 1080i set, and the colors pop. The tipping feature for me was a feature that shuts it off after a predetermined time if there is no activity (changing chennels, volume etc) to prevent burn in.

Just remember contrast ratio is not a formal spec....Manufacturers rate that all over the place. Samsung (my fav) is well known for outrageous contrast specs...No doubt that ratio definitely makes a difference, but a 50k:1 on one brand may not be 5x as much as 10k:1 on another. Good marketing though.
