anyone have any recommendations? i've had mozy for a long time now, but something has changed and i keep getting error after error - but it's sporadic and their support system hasn't been that helpful.

thanks for any suggestions - and i'm talking 250GB of backup...

After a hard drive crash I went with a double backup system. I currently used 2 500GB drive (1 in the computer and 1 external) and I back up to both. Last week I ordered the Drobo (www.drobo.com) with 2TB of storage and it arrives on Monday. After seeing several people use the Drobo I'm satisfied this will take care of my concerns as well as it is fairly portable if you wnat to take it on location with you.

I found every online b/u service to be entirely too slow for the amount of photos I wanted backedup.

people are trying out dropbox, so you might want to check that.

Janet - not sure what you are trying to backup, but if it's images why not just put them on Smugmug? Their plans offer unlimited storage and you can either download individual files or order a CD/DVD of a complete gallery.

As for standard backups, I go with matching external drives. One is kept at home, one offsite. It's not as "automatic" but it works for me and gives me complete control.

jesus - it's raw files, action files, collage files, psd files, anything really that smug doesn't do. i have 4 internal drives in my computer and 4 connected usb at all time. i don't work outside the home, so otherwise in case of fire/theft/natural disaster, i just feel unprepared for. and trust me, if it will happen to anyone....

carbonite only recognizes 3 of my drives, and unless i replace them each with 1tb drives, there's no way to fit everything.

There is something called JungleDisk (www.jungledisk.com) which seems to be a good option as well

I use two external USB HDs for backup similar to what others have mentioned

at some point I will port to Blue Ray - for the higher capacity Blue Ray disk size and so forth - its just too expensive right now

Crashplan sounds like an interesting option. You pay a one-time fee, then have off-site encrypted backups stored over at your friend's house on an external hard drive you supply.
I haven't tried it, but the concept seems interesting. Especially if you do have a failure, you can just drive over and grab the disk and restore locally.

Has anyone tried this?

CrashPlan does look pretty interesting. Especially since it is a linux and windows and macOS native app. Which means my linux box can be backed up to my parent's windows box. Nifty.
