I Love the Canon Repair Center - 06-18-2008, 05:22 PM

Well it finally happened. My Canon 30D started giving me the dreaded 'Error 99' instead of images. My guess that this would mean a month or more of repair headaches and a lot of money. Well you won't believe what happened.

Sunday night, June 8, I went to Canon's website. I found out I could fill out a repair order online, get a repair number, an estimate of cost and address of where to send the camera.
Monday, June 9, I sent the camera to California.
Thursday, June 12, they sent me an email indicating that they had received it and would examine it to give me a final price on repair.
Friday, June 13, received an email with the final cost of $211.09, including tax and shipping. I tried to pay online late Friday but for some reason the online payment was not working. I called at 10:30PM to leave a message but instead got A PERSON. She took my credit card information, approved payment and sent the camera to be repaired.
Tuesday, June 17, got an email that repair was finished and the camera was being shipped.
Thursday, June 18, I got my 30D back.
Now THAT is the way to have a camera repaired. I love Canon, not only for their cameras, but for their Camera Repair Center.
Start to Finish, including shipping time, in only 10 days. WOW!

That's good to hear. I've been procrastinating sending my camera in. Guess I have no reason not to now.

I too love them, hopefully I still love them by the end of the week. My 5D is there getting a new sensor, just like my 350D did over a year ago. How I managed to get two bodies that shipped from the factory with huge clusters of hot pixels is beyond me, but at least Canon takes care of it real quick and fast (though they should take care of it before it makes it into a box for sale.)

I know. Because of the 30D demise, a few weeks ago, I bought a new 40D. Within a week 3 things went wrong with the camera. It looked like I got a lemon. I took it back to Arlington Camera and they switched it out for me that day. No problem. They told me with Canon that is no problem but with some other unnamed brand camera that would not be possible. I am so glad I am a Canon guy.

I sent my 40D and 35L for calibration on June 9. It should be in my hands tomorrow June 19. My past experiences with Canon have been similar in turnaround time.

I had the same problem error99 with a 10D I bought my wife. Canon Repair had it in-out in two weeks cost $217 total. Also had clean, re-calibrated. I very happy with the costumer service.

I won't argue with Canon's service at all. I just sent in the Ds MkII with a busted shutter and scratched Anti-alias filter and the entire repair was back to me within 9 days...and the Anti-alias filter had to come from Japan!

Canon sets the standard for repairs. Oh, and it was covered under warranty, even thou it had expired shortly before I sent it in.

No cost to me.
