Cell phones - 06-24-2008, 11:17 PM

Anyone use Just a cell for their business?
I am trying to set up all of our crap for the house and trying to decide if we want to just do cell phones, or a house phone or both.
What do you do?

Just do the cell, I have not had a home phone since 2000...Never missed the home phone, just make sure you pick a good phone, bat lasts, and extra chargers for different parts of the house and a car charger.

One night, as my wife and I were sitting on the bed, watching tv, really, each talking on our respective cell phones, the phone rang. That's when we realized we had a problem. An expensive problem.

Heck, think about how much a landline costs, with all the taxes on it. We knew anytime that phone rang, it was not family or friends. They all called the cells. Next morning, I called SWB. "Turn this thing off, now!"

Haven't had a personal landline in 4 or 5 years. Still use one for business, though.

I think the tax office put my name out and then the calls for credit card machines was 4-5 a day, once that stopped the cell was fine again. It took about a week for them to stop calling.

Our cell phones are our main communication lines . .personal and business. We only have a landline for our alarm system, at it's the cheapest one we could get.

We have been cell only for four years. You can buy a dock that hooks into your houses phone lines and when your cell is hooked up to it use your house phones like a landline. It is a good option for if you have kids. I always worry about what if there is an emergency and the kids can't find the phone. That solves that problem.

We have a landline bundled (and required) for our DSL Internet service. That and to allow the telemarketers to have something to do.

Thanks guys we haven't had a cell in over 3 years. I gave mine up when dhs command called mine and cursed me out cause they couldn't find dh who was in the same building btw. So dh and I shut both cells off and refused to get another lol.
I just knew that we couldn't afford both a cell and house phone.

So do you have unlimited calling period? Or is it certain #s?
We have to decide soon and as much as I will be back and forth between NC and VA the cell would be better but I need unlimited calling.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions :D

There are a ton of unlimited plans out there. Do some research. Also I would find out who has the best coverage if you are going to be going back and forth.

I'd go all cell, but the coverage at my house is terrible. I should try someother services. I also have the DSL/phone bundle.

Yep, any public info such as that, or a new dba, business phone number with ATT, etc. will bring out the cc processors, National Assoc of this or that, etc.

How do you get you business cell in the 'real' yellow pages? I tried with a Vonage number. YP told me Vonage had to do it, Vonage told me YP had to do it. Rock, meet hardspot.

Of course, we have 3 regional yp's I could get a cell, or Vonage, in, but I don't know anyone who uses them for looking for stuff. Everyone I asked says they only use SWB/ATT YP. Me, too.

I haven't checked it out but it's my understanding that since the first of the year the FCC "REQUIRES" the phone companies to offer "naked DSL service" so that you don't need to bundle a local phone line with the dsl service. Of course they won't advertise this and may act like they don't know what you are talking about.

One ringy dingy... "We're the phone company. We don't have to care."
