I need to know of a good cheap online photo lab or one in the humble area.
I use Sams (17cents/ 4x6)...does anyone know how that quality is compared to professional labs online or not?
Around how much are you paying for 4x6? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

we were having this conversation at the Willowbrook/NW Houston gtg tonight, in fact.
We pretty much agreed that it isn't the place per se, but the people. ALmost every lab uses the sam Fuji machine. I've had excellent results at Walmart, and awful results at Walmart. Great results at pricey labs, and know-it-all jerks at pricey labs. Find a place you like, don't get hung up on the name on the door and work with them. If they will work with you and get you what YOU want (mostly like not fiddling with the image), give them a go.
For proofs i used a nearby Walmart where the folks were fabulous and knew exactly what I wanted (for them to turn off all the auto adjustments on my pics, for one) until corporate shut down that store's lab. The next closest store never would work with me, so they're off the list.
I have now found a nearby Walgreen's that will at least listen to me. I use them for proofs and small prints (up to 5x7). So far, so good.
For large prints and stuff I might sell, I use MPix (online, MPIX.com). I use their metallic paper a lot, but the s+h means very small orders aren't realistic.
For posters (like 24x36) I use Perfectposters.com (inkjet, but a 24x36 runs like $25). Very heavy paper.

I took my sons newborn photos to walmart and they gave me grief over them wanting the "copyright" for them. After my mother in law and I tried explaining to him that I took the pictures, I ended up having to go home and get my cf card with all of the other pictures on it along with the mess-ups and my couch in the background before they would print them for me. Then I went to officemax the next day to have a calender printed with some of the same pictures on them for my husband and they had no problems. I think it really does depend on the people and how they're willing to treat you.

I had the very same situation with Wal Mart on my sons prom pictures. I had made the prints and was ready to check out and they would not let me purchase them saying that I did not take them nor did I have the copyright. Now mind you I had my camera sitting on the couter and my husband and I were telling the girl that I had taken them. I told her give me the paper work and I would fill it out there and she just became just plain rude with us. I will never use them again.
I have had great results with www.mpix.com fast service great quailty. Good Luck

I have great images from Costco. The images I have sent to Sams have been okay, but I think the ones from Costco come out a lot better.
As for printing online as I vote for mpix, for printing at a B&M store I vote for Costco.

"I had the very same situation with Wal Mart on my sons prom pictures. "
I would rather they do this than just print anything and everything that comes thru. It's for your own protection as a photographer. Feel honored they saw the quality.
Just fill out their little form and it'll be done with.

Good for Walmart for making sure people own the copyrights when they see pro level photos! And good for you for taking such great photos!
If they bug you allot get some business cards that say photographer and have your flikr or other photo sharing site url on them. many online places will print 50 cards for less than $5.

They are formerly Miller's, however, they do a fantastic job and I really quick on shipping (and I mean quick).

Pat | Correction, they are a division of Miller's. They are more or less the consumer side of Millers Professional Imaging...

I've been using the same Wolf Camera for about the last 6 or 7 yrs. The people there do fine work and know their stuff. If I don't like the print (including enlargements) they do it over and thats after offering me different test exposures to judge from- and then end up giving me the ones I didn't like. When you find a place like this where the people know their stuff and know customer service I keep going back. They know me, what I expect and work with me till I'm happy. Can't beat that.
