All I can say is WOW! It almost brought tears to my eyes the first time I viewed it last night. With the new equipment, even the non-HD looks better.

Congrats John on your setup.....HD is the only way to go!

Commercial do suck! But I heard Jimmy Kimmel will integrate live commercials into each episode of the program subject to interest on the part of advertisers. The first live commercials began in May. Advertisers also believe live ads may be one way to beat the DVR by integrating the product into the content of the show.

That would ruin a lot of shows if they were to do that (assuming integrated advertising). Of course, TV isn't really about the programming but rather about advertising.

I bought my first HD about 6 years ago. It is a CRT type, Sony. I wasn't really impressed and when I went to the HD channels, my screen resized and I have a border around it. Why have a big screen if it does that? I just wasn't really impressed. There are ways to resize the screen with remote control settings, but it isn't a real fix.

We got a flat screen HD for the bedroom just over a year ago. That one makes me say "Wow!" It really makes a difference.

I suppose it is the age of the technology.

There are still some HD channels that broadcast with a border, which I don't understand. Yet, some others are full-screen HD, which is great on a 40" display because I don't feel like screen real estate is being wasted.

are you talking the sidebars? For example sometimes NFL Network and ESPN will have logod side bars. It's because the show you're watching isn't actually in HD. So the network has their logod bars on the side. For example the NFL Draft back in April was not in HD on NFL Network, so we recieved an SD broadcast on the HD channel. Fortunately most of the local networks are broadcasting things like their 5 and 10 o'clock news in HD, but some shows still aren't HD. Not everything on an HD channel is always HD sadly.

Yes, sidebars. The picture looks HD except for the sidebars.

What brand did you get? LCD, Plasma or DLP?

I just ordered the 65" Aquos LCD with Sony PS3 :)

I have a 57" 1080P Mistubishi DLP and OEM stand for sale if anyone is in the market for one.
