I especially enjoy photographing the natural world, particularly Big Bend National Park. I go there every year at least once to hike and take photos (in fact I already have a trip planned for November). Its sort of a sabbatical from my regular work which is primarily corporate photography.
Lately I've been working with some friends to put together a company that would offer a number of one day/two day local workshops in the Dallas area including studio portrait lighting and outdoor portrait lighting using various techniques (Dean Collins Light Panels System, the minimalist approach of the Strobists, and the light control system of Ed Pierce). I'd also like to combine the outdoor landscape photography, which I really enjoy, with models using some of these very same aforementioned techniques. There are tons of places in Big Bend that would provide incredible backdrops for models but the question is would it be something that people would pay to attend (especially now with a sluggish economy and high fuel costs).
I would provide transportation within the park so high ground clearance vehicles would not be a requirement for the participants (you could drive down to the park in your econobox to save costs). I envision two days inside the park shooting and one day in the area surrounding the park. I'd like to get some feedback as to interest in such a workshop from members on the site.
As a final caveat - this would be a non-nude workshop and it would probably be in April 2009 at the earliest. The maximum number of participants would be eleven, two models, eight shooters and me. While in the park we would travel by Safari jeep with lunch served in the field. The final day outside of the park would include Terlingua Ghost Town, Contrabando Movie Set and Closed Canyon, all of which are accessible with normal automobiles. Getting to and from the park would be your responsibility as would be food and lodging during the workshop.
Again, this is just a non scientific poll to see if there's any interest in such an outing - no such workshop has been created, no arrangements have been made with any vendors or models and no permit has been obtained for such a venue - we're just testing the waters to see if anyone has interest in such a workshop being given.
