Can anyone suggest where to find a local community (Houston) of models willing to work for free in exchange for a print?

MM has more models than you could possibly want to shoot TFP. But make sure they're serious about the shoot, and WILL show up. I had 3 no-shows out of about 12 shoots. One was in a car wreck the night before, so she's forgiven.
Also, some have Myspace accounts also, and you can learn more about them from that. I had one girl, 19 very cute. MM profile seemed professional, but her MS was all about gang bangin. I had a "paid" shoot come up and had to cancel.

Keep checking the Houston section here - every once and awhile someone will schedule a meetup for models and photogs. Great way to get several models at once.
I've been to some in Galveston (strand and beach), downtown, and at various studios.

as mentioned check the workshops section as well, there's a bunch of "workshops" that will cost you 30 bucks and offer you the opportunity to shoot sometimes 10+ models in a few hours.
