iPhone v2.0 up and running... - 07-10-2008, 05:58 PM

Just updated my iPhone and so far so good. Takes a bit for the install but it went smoothly. And since the new plans don't offer the same unlimited data packages (according to what I have seen) I guess this is one case where being an early adopter does pay off....

What do you mean the new plans don't offer unlimited data? I've got unlimited data and txt msgs on my Tilt (3G).. It's like $30 a month for the data, if I remember correctly. With at&t it really helps to call and talk to someone. You can get all sorts of things setup that aren't available over the website. And the in-store people are virtually useless.

The new Iphone 3G service plans are going to cost more than current Iphone plans.

I read somewhere that it only cost like around $40 a year more for the new iPhone once you include the initial cost and everything..... don't forget to factor in that time is money as well :-)

$79.00 400 min voice plan with unlimited data. If you want Text SMS that will set you back $5.00 bucks a month.

If you are already an Iphone user you current plan is cheaper "Since you use the GSM Network".

So yes the new iphone is cheaper but the plan is more per month.

Actually... 450mins, 5000 night/weekend, unlimited mobile-to-mobile, unlimited data is going to be $70. http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-pho...phone-info.jsp

Definitely more, but you will pay that higher price for any phone you put on the 3G network.

I decided not to upgrade to the new phone because I like my current $20/month data plan on the original iPhone. You changed to v 2.0 do you still get to keep your original data plan rates or are they all going to change?

I am thinking that apple accidentally let v2.0 go live and pete got lucky as there are no signs that v2.0 is available now

ok further searching has found the 2.0 was the official 2.0 but link was pulled as it was not supposed to be public which makes sence as why would apple release 2.0 to the original owners prior to the new 3g owners.

follow the link in post 12, and read carefully...where it says read...click it

then you've got 2.0

I've been running it since about 3 this afternoon, you also need to install the new iTunes as this is where the app store is located.

I've probably got a good 20 plus apps, all freebies, already downloaded. Some just for fun some are neat and have a purpose.

And yes, I will be getting a new phone as well. I like my iPhone, but I want more space and I'd like the GPS, and I like the white color better than the brushed aluminum.

as for why it's "available"...well it was always going to go live tomorrow anyway because of the app store and it was announced that 2.0 would be available for 1st gen users on the 11th. Someone just did a little digging and found it.
