Check out any local photography studios. When you're just starting out, sometimes this also means checking out the studios and Wal-Mart so that you can learn a little about lighting and a lot about dealing with people.

Almost all of the interns I have used in the past, called for an interview then came in with a resume and a portfolio. After we agreed to proceed I contacted their university and set everything up with the department head.

So you might want to put together a resume and a portfolio and call a few photographers that you would like to work for and learn from.

If you really want to do this as a profession then I suggest you consider getting a degree in business with a photography minor. There are hundreds af very good photographers out there that have to have a "day job" and do photography on the side, because they are not very good at the business and marketing side of the ledger.

I second the business degree suggestion. Don is a very experienced photographer and business owner - he's been around the block more than a few times.

Also, there's a lot of good reading on sportsshooter.com about the state of the newspaper industry, if you were thinking about going that route.

Internships often are advertised through journalism and photography departments at local colleges.

Wow! Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate your advice. I have been looking into local photographers but have not found so much luck yet. In fact it was one of those photographers that suggested me to check out this site.
Guess I'll just have to keep trying!!! lol
Once again, Thanks!
