left over nails from Roofing job - 07-13-2008, 12:08 PM

Had a new roof put on recently, so rented a magnet sweeper and this was what I found in backyard yesterday. I saw the roofers doing a magnet sweep but they were using a hand held sweeper and staying close to the house. I found 95% of this ten to thirty feet from the house. Some of the srews are from the removed gutters.

LOL, my new house had dead spot in the back yard.
When I dug it up I found old shoes and assorted construction junk.

Going to have to remember that. Probably a lot easier (and safer) than finding them with the lawnmower.

Ha Ha.... yep.......or having the pets or kids step on one .... Ouch!......... the magnet in that sweeper is pretty strong. kinda fun to listen to the metal jump up and hit the bottom of it.

Kewl! Looks like it snagged a truck in the second picture. I'm gonna have to go rent one of those tools and see what kind of car might be buried in my back yard.

Your famiy's bare feet will thank you.

Our house was built in 1964. I found a dog tag in the yard from 1968 ... still looking new and shiny.

I just this last week read an article about returning dog tags to their owners.

We kept finding nails for over a year. They were in the gutters and eventually worked their way down.

I think most of the nails find their way into the street. My tires have been cleaning them up.

Good call on the sweeper.

Even though our roofers used the nails with the day glow orange collars on them we were still finding them all over the yard, grass was thick then.
I did step on one and it almost went through my shoes.
