zzzzZZZzzsleep Number - 07-14-2008, 02:34 PM

Ok here is the story. When I first got married 5 years ago my wife to be and I went bed shopping. We looked at every type of bed out there. From the regular spring beds, sleep number bed, and let us not for get the foam bed. Hell we even tried the buckwheat husk bed.(not bad and was on the short list but to much $$$)

We ended up with a Beauty Rest great price and great deal. After a few years that bed hurt me so bad I now sleep about 50 percent of the night on the sofa. Turned out to be not such a great deal so I have had it. I went looking at the Sleep Number Bed again. Pricey but mighty fine. After the sales pitch which all takes place while you are laying down in comfort. my back hasn't felt that good in years.

I was wondering if anyone out there in forum land has a Sleep Number Bed and what do you think about it. I am looking at the 7000.

thanks.

I want one too, but they're so expensive. I just have a hard time justifying the expense when our bed is only +/-7 years old. I'm interested in the responses you get.

I wonder if they have good sales. Perhaps you can pick one up during a Labor Day sale.

I just couldn't spend the money for a fancy air mattress. I bought a new king size for about 1200 bucks.. think it last me maybe 6 years. If had the money think I would buy a full latex mattress.. take look at them really nice . It just hard for me to spend over 3 grand for a bed.

We have a sleep number bed and love it! My hubby was having issues w/ back pain too which is why we started looking at the sleep number bed. He has not had any problems since and that was 4 years ago. Our only complaint is that our pump has gone out twice now and they are not cheap to replace. We love the bed though.

I started reading the reviews on the sleep comfort and from the reviews I am getting a little gun shy about buying the sleep comfort. it seems that there are a few problems with the pumps going out and one big issue about the center being hard and the bed sags in couple years.

No pump problems here...(Keep it PG, folks) Our's is over 5 years old, we replaced a waterbed. Very nice, still in excellent shape.

We have a good king size Serta with the thick pillow tops. I love it.
I've had a broken and dislocated back in the past, so would often find it troublesome to get a good nights sleep on most mattresses (which is why I hate hotels). But this works for me.

we've had one for well over 10+ years, no problems whatsoever so far. I HIGHLY recommend them.

Our story (get comfortable...)

In the early 80s my back problems were so bad that I was considering exploratory surgery just to figger out what it was....but 1st, a friend suggested we try a water bed, he had one and it was a miracle cure for him. A few nights at their house convinced us. We needed a new matress, so we found a waveless 2-bagger that looked and acted just like a regular mattress.

And no back trouble whatsoever!

fast forward about 15 years or so, we got tired of waking up at 3am with wet feet...so a replacement was in order. Wife did not under any circumstances want another water mattress, I did not want under any circumstances want a regular mattress......

A trip to the mall and the Select Comfort store found the answer. We've been sleeping soundly on it ever since. No back issues, no leaks, no problems at all.

btw, I am a 45, wife is a 40......

We've also had one for more than 10 years... HIGHLY recommend it as well... love, love, love my bed. The foam walls on the edges have started to show wear, but that's been our only issue with it.... my parents have one, my son has one, and my grandmother has one... of all of those beds (which makes for 7 pumps.. 2 for each king/queen bed), only one pump failed, and it did so within the warranty period and was replaced for free.

LOVE this bed.

I range from 35 to 55, depending on my back... when its hurting, a few nights at 55 will make it feel better and let me sleep... when everything is normal and I want to sink into extra soft luxury... I drop down to 35.... its like having more than one bed. :)

Had it.

Loved it. I was a 50 most nights.

Pump went out and we were both a 0 for that night

It was still under our "satisfaction warranty" period, so we traded it in.

Went Black and never went back.

I went back again to try them out at that mall. I kinda get the feeling that I am on bubble sometimes. If I make my side really soft and get up my wife said she feels like she is being pulled over to my side.

my old bed is still under warranty and I am going to wait and see what they say about the condition and hopefully I can get a new one. I think I should be ok if I can get a new bed out of the deal. The next one will be softer than the last one that's for sure. I am in no hurry to drop 4k on a bed. That is my Plasma money. The main issue here is the wife is happy with the old bed now if she was not happy the wheels of progress would be moving so much faster.

Out of all that have the bed are you all back sleepers, side, or stomach?

well I just got back from yet another trip to the sleep store. this time I stopped by the tempurpedic beds too. OOOH so nice. I just might pick one of those tempurpedic beds up instead. I tried them out 4 years ago and thought they were to hard. Temper has made some improvements. I was impressed. If they would have had these models out 5 years ago I would be sleeping one right now. That was the bed my wife wanted from the get go. But my cheapness went for the deal on the spring bed.

I bought a tempurpedic a couple of months ago and like it. My biggest concern was that some of the old reviews said it was hot, as the foam didn't breathe. That was a deal breaker for me, but after seeing the new designs, it seems they've addressed the problem and the bed stays pretty cool. No aches and pains with this bed.
