How much would an associates or bachelor's degree impact your resume if trying to become a photojournalist?

Would an associates (commercial photography) with a good portfolio do just as good a bachelor's for me if I applied as a commercial photographer?

The jobs are getting scarce as magazines and newspapers cut back on staffs (50 people in newsroom recently laid off at Fort Worth's daily paper, as an example), so my take is that freelancers have a much better shot at making a living as photojournalists (this is up for debate, obviously). That said, a business degree with a minor in photojournalism might provide a more solid foundation. Making money is about business with your art.
