Down with Bank of America!! - 07-17-2008, 11:27 PM

man oh man, they have really hacked me off this evening.

long story short - my daughter od'd her account. i call her immediately - she transfers money in - which puts her back in the black. next morning...they nail her for $75 for the 3 things which put her over. I immediately transferred that back in this morning - everything's good, right?

i had her paycheck so this morning, i go over to b0fa - and make the deposit and complain...they credit her back half of the 75. all is good, ya? no.

tonite, she signs in - and they have nailed her now for 6 (SIX) $35 od charges...because...when they nabbed her for the 75, it threw her negative again...

now don't you think they should have said something today when they were looking at this? and offered the partial refund? i mean, after all - i did make a several hundred dollar deposit at the same time..which is basically now negated.

UGH!

that's all.

Wells Fargo tries stuff like that, too. Except transactions will already be cleared and they'll change dates so they can charge you for three ods instead of just one. I know how you feel. I hate banks.

I switched from BoA for that reason. They try to tack charges on for everything.

Went with Guaranty (in Dallas), they're awesome. Rebates for all ATM fees.

I HATE BoA.

I am a 13 year customer, they froze all of my accounts because THEY made a $20,000.00 mistake. Took them a MONTH to get it cleared up. In the end they refunded me 23 OD fees as my auto pay bills came through...

And then, they wouldn't even look at my small business loan application because I was a start-up business.

Bastards.

This is why I go to a local credit union not owned by the big executives!

I swear Stalin's long lost brother is at the helm. They tacked me for 13 overdrafts. Get this, it was after my paycheck was deposited 3 days before. They generously waived a few of them. I had to call the number listed to get the money back, it was an error on their part. SUCH BS.

I do have some nice letters from them....

That is how banks earn their income these days and they all do it. They hold deposits, charge large fees, etc. My banker told me the other day that they have 1 customer that routinely pays $800 in fees each month becuase he won't set up OD protection. That's just crazy, but the banks love it.

The best way to avoid this is to make sure you either have overdraft protection setup or don't let your balance get too low.

We have TCF Banks up here that do the same kind of stuff Bank of America does.. I switched from them years ago to US Bank, and haven't had an issue. And the funny thing? When they screw up, thay actually make it right, and don't go half the charges back, they reverse all charges. It's been relatively nice dealing with them. The wufe and I havew thought about switching to a credit union, but I like actually being able to find a fee free ATM when I travel.

I have been preaching this since last year, I had like a 20 dollar balance the night before I got paid, I went and got cigarettes or something that was like 5 bucks, still had a positive balance, went to cash my check, they wanted something like 76 bucks in fees for what? I must have talked to every person in the branch, none of which would tell me why I was being charged for having a 15 dollar balance, i took my check elsewhere and told them to close my account, they wouldnt with a negative balance so now I am fighting a collection company who is going after my credit score!

I used to work for BoA....sorry! They should have refunded the addt'l fees though. I tried to work with acct holders when that kind of crap happened.
I don't even bank with them now. I use a credit union for my personal stuff and just opened up an acct with a 'large' bank for my biz stuff. Hopefully won't be a bad experience.

They have just gotten too big. They don't care about the individual customer anymore.

My biggest advocate through my 'frozen asset' ordeal was the local branch manager. He refunded as many OD fees as he was allowed, on the spot. He force-paid as many of my auto-draft bills as he could before they locked even him out of the account. Then he withdrew $3000.00 cash from our checking account for us to live on while the whole thing got sorted out.

He spent probably 3 hours total on the phone before it was all over trying to get it resolved for us. But in the end, he was just as helpless as we were. Which is kind of scary.

The same guy was the one that gave me the news that they wouldn't even look at my business plan. He was one embarrassed fellow. Again.

my E*Trade accounts are the shizzy. I've been with them for 6 months, and the interest I've earned in my savings account has already exceeded the interest I've earned in my Chase savings account...and I've been with Chase for 8 years. I earn interest in both my checking and savings, free atms. Thinking about closing my Chase account altogether. Only thing I like about Chase is I can text them and get my balance. That's kind of cool.

I was with BoA for a couple years when I was going to school at Sam Houston. I was never so glad when I could close out my account and say so long to BoA. I am with USAA and the Teachers credit union. credit unions are the only way to go.

I've been having similar experiences with WaMu. Frustrating, as I've been with them for probably 10 years now. However, technically now I am an employee of BoA.. so I may find myself switching due to employee benefits. *shrug*
