Beagle Free To Good Home - 07-18-2008, 10:50 AM

Ok, I hate this but we have to find a new home for our six-year-old beagle. He just does not like kids - they scare him and make him nervous. Unfortunately, he reacts by snapping at them and trying to bite them the same way he would with a puppy. With two little ones around our house, we just can't do it anymore. We've tried training but he just doesn't do kids. I'm hoping to find him a nice single or older couple or even a family with teenagers or something. He is completely house trained and crate trained. He's a pure breed, but I have no idea where his papers are and he is neutered. He would do fine with a big yard or in an apartment as long as someone was to walk him well. He probably needs a house with no other pets since he is very dominant but it depends on the animals, I guess. Anyway, if you are interested or know of anyone who's interested, please PM me or post questions here.

Here's a pic of him when he was a puppy:

Here's a really bad pic of him now. I'll try to get better pics today or tomorrow.

We're including his crate and his bed to whoever takes him. We really want to find him a good home. We've had him since he was a puppy. Just let me know if you think you might want him or if you know of anyone who might. Thanks!

I'm so afraid that we're going to have to do the same with our Cocker Spaniel once we have kids :( Hope you can find him a good home... I'll send word to my friends, see if I can get any interest.

I love beagles too, but just adopted a beagle mix. I really hope you find him a good home. Have you tried a beagle rescue? There's always people who will adopt there

That was the next place we were going to try, John. We just started looking this week.

I really wish I could take him. I even asked my sister if she would, but no luck. And with us having a dog less than 1 year old we're going through all the puppy phases now

You know, I think I'd actually try to get him in the breed rescue program before asking around for homes for him. The breed rescue groups generally do an amazing job of placing animals with the right home. They are very particular about the placements, do home checks, require and follow through on references, and make sure the personality of the dog will match the personality of the family taking him.

Since he's pure bred and in good health, I would think they'd take him pretty easily.

Good luck. It must be breaking your heart to have to get rid of him.

He actually does pretty well with puppies. He might have trouble "marking his territory" but we got our lab-mix when he was like 10 or 12 weeks old (if that) and was only 20lbs. Paddy doesn't usually like big dogs or new dogs, but he did great with George. George is now about 100 lbs but they're still best friends...

That said, I will probably try the beagle rescue.

I would love to take the dog. But, we have a Jackruseel/Schnause mix who is about 2 years old. We also have like a 15 year oldsmall ugly dogs of my mother in-law's that lives with us since she can't have a dog at her place. They get along fine, but my dog is defidently the dominent dog. I don't know how he would handle it. He plays well with our friend's Huge Boxers, and Boston Terrier, but their Bulldog scares him a little. We have a dog door and the dogs are free to go and go during the day into our back yard, but Our cat runs the house at night. So we have the dog door shut and the dogs in their pens.
