Starbucks closings listing - 07-21-2008, 11:30 AM

OK, for all the Starbucks lovers... Here's a map showing the closings by early next year. Although I prefer a couple of independent houses in my area, I know some will find this, uh... disheartening?

http://online.wsj.com/public/resourc...KS_080718.html

The main thing I don't like is the people it will put out of work, but this seems to be the nature of things nowadays.

I know what you mean. I can drive Airport Freeway in either direction, for two to three miles, from my house and find four Starbucks. Three of them are on the same side of the highway. None of them are on the list. Of course, AF running through the Mid-Cities is the most traveled corridor in the area. It's insane.

Yep.

I looked on their site and noticed there are 21 in Arlington, TX alone. I think that is enough personally.

Now I am not a big purchaser of SB coffee...but gotta say... Folger's has got to be the worst tasting coffee IMO. They serve that at my office and man it's bitter. Thank goodness people bring in different blends and such. Funny thing...I even like Maxwell House cheap stuff...

FWIW: I used to like Folgers years ago... I wonder if I just burned out on it at the office.... Probably.

I get free Starbucks coffee at my office, however there are those employees who prefer to go pay for 7-11 coffee. Yuck. I'd never PAY for Starbucks coffee, but I get it free, I'll drink it all day long.

Maybe someone replaced your cheap imitation brand with Folgers?

The bigger companies get, it seems the worse they get. I find more satisfaction from local businesses anymore.

As for "Pike's Place" being touted nationally as the most wonderful coffee ever blended... Blah, I disagree.

I suppose businesses go bad when the customer becomes a collective group rather than an individual.

I do like the concept of Starbuck's and big business for that matter, I've just become disenchanted over time.

Finally, I guess it's the economy that keeps us all humble.

(My rant for the month, or day anyway.)

I enjoy the occasional iced mocha from SB, that's about it.

Haven't drunk coffee in probably 30 years and I've been in a Starbucks twice, both times to get the wife a Chai something or other because she'd just had eye surgery and I wouldn't let her walk in to get it as she thought she could do.
They can close em all...
