ok, I give up....I need help - 07-22-2008, 04:51 PM

..finding a decent classical music station on the web. Many of the ones I've tried streaming are not really classical or not really 24/7 or not really in existance.

I tried giving the local station (KUHF) another chance, but their HD1 stream of 24/7 classical music has been yapping nonstop since 3pm every day. Or worse, playing some local interviews.

Today it sounds like Lounge Singer tryouts. Classical? Maybe it's a classical Bill Murray skit form SNL.....

Gads I miss KRTS.

post your links here.

please, classical music only. I save my Doors and Green Day for the ride home.

TIA

Please let me know if it works for you! I haven't try it with classical music yet, but I will as soon as I get home tonight!

I would think the classical ones would be most likely to be available since it's about all older than the copyright duration.

performance copyrights remain in effect.

Pandora works perfectly for classical (according to my limited-so-far experience!). Enter 'Mozart' and it plays "Mozart and similar". Or Bach. Or Vivaldi. Or Telemann.

but no commercials. or lounge singers. or yapping.

Have you tried the Dallas classical station (run by the city of Dallas - so any City meetings are broadcasted instead of music). The web site is: http://www.wrr101.com/stream.shtml

John, i used to listen to WRR when i worked in Carrollton, but those meetings were a killer.....it took me awhile to figure out what the heck was going on....it's a great station otherwise.

Edit: Sorry, I should read all the posts before jumping in. Wednesday is city council meeting, so I tune to KNTU 88.1 and listen to jazz that day. Sadly it's signal barely covers the metroplex.

If you want to try a station from Texas, you could try streaming Austin's KMFA. http://www.kmfa.org/

Usually not too much talking (except for pledge drive, of course) and they have a few locally produced shows that I really like: Classical Guitar Alive, Ancient Voices early music, Pipeworks for organ, Choral Classics and more. I suppose it depends on what part of "classical" that you like, I like early music and baroque a lot, so a Bach organ fugue suits me fine. They have other a few other shows that I turn off, like Film Score Classics and such, but I don't think there is any radio station that I'm going to like all the programming.
