Quick Q about the Nikon N80 - 07-25-2008, 07:38 AM

Didn't quite know where to post this, but I was wondering if anyone knew the filter size of the kit lens that came with the Nikon N80? Been trying to sneak around and find out so I can buy her some filters as a surprise for our trip coming up, but all my attempts have failed.

Thank you in advance!

If it is the 18-135mm...I "believe" it is 62mm. However, I could be wrong. If it is the 18-55mm lens then it is 52mm filter size.

If you look on the inside of the lens cap it will tell you the diameter in millimeters. That is the size filter you will use -- in most cases. If you go to a camera shop and tell them what lens you have, anyone worth their salt can tell you. Additionally, go to the camera shop and take the lens with you to be sure.

Yes. :) But I can't get my hands on the camera itself....

Frazzled, I think it's bigger than the 52mm, so I'll go with the 62mm and keep my receipt! Thank you!

If you can have her take the camera out based on some made up reason, the lens information is on the top written in either gold or white. It will say something like Nikkor 18-55 AF-S DX. Take that information to Wolf camera or some such shop and they can tell you what size filter it needs.

The most likely size for Nikkor DX lenses are 62mm and 67mm. My 18-70 is 62mm and the 70-300 is 67. You might try buying both and returning the one that does not fit. Used to do this all the time at Auto Zone when I was not sure which part fit my particular application. -G

Thank you for the research, MRCPix! I had been surfing, but just didn't come up with anything.

Pippin- N80. I know that for sure. She hasn't moved to digital yet.

As for getting the camera on false pretenses, I won't be up there before our trip. And I tried "So heeeey...like what's the range on your lens, like whatcha got?" questioning, but didn't get very far with it. She's not one to memorize all her gear. I think getting something close and I'll just hang onto my receipt will be my best bet. I'm just really hoping I get the right one so she can use it that day.

Thank you all for your help!
