So, I was driving into work, initially headed South on the I-45 feeder between 646 and 517 (League City/Dickinson), when my laser detector went off. I spotted the officer standing with the laser, but I did not see his car....until I got closer.
Brand new 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa!! It was decked out in black and white with lights mounted in place of the front signals. I think it is safe to say no one will be outrunning this officer, but it may be dang hard to tell that he is trying to pull you over.
Yes, I failed as a photographer and did not get a shot of it.

Considering that most department's don't let their motorcycles get in (or stay in) pursuits, it seems like a waste of hp. | | | |

I'm sure they have a similar deal that Harley Davidson has with PD's. Harley charges PD's 50% of retail for all their motorcycles. The Dept. I used to work for in CA had a great deal. The officer would buy the motorcycle through the Dept's. PO (thereby receiving the 50% discount) and then lease back the motorcycle to the Dept. for 4 years (the term of a traffic assignment) and when they were through with their assignment they would own the motorcycle outright having paid $0 for it. Most of the officers kept the MC for their personal use, once in a while they would sell it.
Basically with the deal HD gave them they could own a really nice HD for the cost of the old Kawasaki police bike.

I always heard that motorcycle officers bought their own bikes...I've seen this thing, too...parked in front of the Pizza Inn...I will get to talk to the guy that owns it, I'm sure... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
