What is a "Cameo Shot" - 07-30-2008, 04:49 PM

Hi All,

Well I just got notified that a picture I submitted to a calendar photo contest has been chosen and will appear as a "cameo shot"....I plead ignorance as I have no idea what that means. Any input or help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Traditionally it was an image of a person in profile (head and usually shoulders)...I think the only ones I've ever seen were oval shaped...Many were in bais relief...Don't know if that applies to your photo or not...Ben

Hi Ben,

Well the calendar consists of nature photos and my shot was of a pear cactus blossom. All the pictures submitted had to be landscape so I thought perhaps they were going to make it an oval....but the term threw me as I had never heard of a cameo shot.

possibly as a reference to cameo shots used in movies: a minor, very short duration roll by a fairly well known person. That person usually doesn't get listed in the "Starrring..." part.

So here the assumption (truly an assumption on my part) is that your pic will be used in some way, probably not as a main image for, say, July, but as a smaller pic somewhere else; perhaps as an insert somewhere.

Since most submittals don't even get that, you should feel quite pleased.

The context sounds like you won't have a month, but your shot will appear on a page.

It may be that they are using your shot to fill blank days on the calendar.. sometimes when calendars are printed, those squares that aren't the days of the month are filled with images.
