So what do you do when you work?

I draw this stuff and write the PLC programs that make it work (among many other things). These are screen shots of my most recent project. I also wrote the PLC program that the interface "talks" to. I deleted the names of the customer and our contact info... that's why there are "ugly spots" on the images.

Compared to most jobs that I do this one is itty bitty... but it's been fun to do. The screen shots are from development mode. If it were live there would be numbers in the ### areas

This thing is kind of cool because when you push the start button (and everything is right) it starts a little natural gas fueled engine, warms it up, and closes a bypass valve which puts the oil pump online...

Very interesting! I would love to have gone more into the PLC and hardware interfacing stuff, but I sidetracked into programming and database stuff;) This is what I've been working on for the past year or so: http://www.buildautomator.com/ - my wife did the web design concept, I did the programming, documentation etc. We both work for ourselves and from home. We've tried soldering SMDs, to the unfortunate ruin of said SMDs and their boards. I don't think I'd trust myself to build anything more complicated than groundplane (dead-bug) circuits.
