Get License from NOAA before photgraphing the Earth. - 08-01-2008, 05:15 PM

NOAA Open Letter to Google Lunar X PRIZE Participants

"As part of your effort to win the Google Lunar X PRIZE, will your entry or any related facilities be capable of actively or passively sensing the Earth’s surface, including
bodies of water, from space by making use of the properties of the electromagnetic waves emitted, reflected, or diffracted by the sensed objects?
If so, and if your team is based wholly or partially in the USA, you may need to apply for a license from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This is because Land Remote Sensing Policy Act of 1992 and its implementing regulations require any person subject to the jurisdiction or control of the United States who operates or proposes to operate a private remote sensing space system that images the Earth, and/or establishes substantial connections with the United States regarding the operation of such a system to obtain a license from NOAA."

I bought an Earth Remote Sensoring Device off craiglist for $7. It was used, but in good shape. I knew it was too good to be true. I had 1,000's of show winners. Such a shame I had to dump them all, as I did not get my license. Heck, I didn't even get an Official Earth Remote Sensoring Device Secret Decoder Ring. Maybe I can double my money selling it on ebay.

They can't make me forget the handshake, though. Well, unless they use the Vulcan mind meld.

HA! They don't scare me. I'm not even going to tell them the next time I'm out in space, much less if I take a picture from space.

Ladies and Gentleman, we will be boarding spaceship one shortly.
Please do not bring any type of imaging device on the ship nor are M&M's allowed, we dont want a replication of the first flight. We do want you to enjoy your 29 seconds in space.
Have a safe flight and remember not to open the windows.
Thank you

So, because I took a shot from an airplane window and showed the curvature of the earth, and did not have a license I am now a criminal?
Love to have that charge brought - Imagine the jury laughing the NOAA out of court.

Somewhere in my negatives I have some shots of DFW Regional Airport that I took from a C-172 when I was in high school. It was about a year before the airport opened. I hope the statue of limitations has run out
