Speaking of work-mac help - 08-01-2008, 10:42 PM

One of the many hats I wear at work is our video screens for service, setting up the worship service, scheduling volunteers to operate them during service, and maintaining software and hardware. Recently malware "mysteriously" (antivirus 2008) appeared on the computer that runs the worship software. After cleaning it numerous times with programs and manually, windows reinstalled the thing keeps showing up.
Pastor decided it was time for a new computer and told me to shop them and he thought it should be a mac. So I called apple, told rep what we needed the computer to do (ivga compatible, run Adobe Premiere Cs3 suite and Ethernet to a tricaster that displays on the 4 big screens). This is what he recommended
iMac, 24-inch,
Intel Core 2 Duo Custom
1 -Apple wireless Mighty Mouse 065-7660
-Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) + User's Guide 065-7667
-NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3 065-7738
-Accessory kit 065-7670
-2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB 065-7650
-500GB Serial ATA Drive 065-7653
-2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 065-7739
actually he suggested trio core and 4gb ram, I thought we could scale back just a bit. After verifying that all hardware was mac compatible I took the PO to pastor to get it signed, well fed-ex delivered it today .
Well so here are a couple of things I'm not sure about
1. A mac worship software to use, we used easy worship but no mac version
2. Just use program like VMFusion and still use EW, which also means not having to buy adobe mac software but I think we want to do video editing on mac.
3. Did I mention I've never used a mac . So I need ALL the help I can get, because after querying the volunteers none of them have ever used a mac, but all are willing to learn so after I learn OS I get to teach it them.

We use Easy Worship also, and you can run it on the iMac using parallels and Windows XP... I know it sounds weird, but I've seen the Mac handle a windows based program without a hitch!

PS, the Easy Worship people say that they are working on a Mac version... I hope it comes out soon!!

I remember Easy Worship... My church youth group used it to display lyrics for the band I played drums for. My guess is you could load Windows onto the mac through parallels or bootcamp and run it through there. Chances are it will work fine.
