I wanted to do a little 3 day trip with the kids before school starts. I was looking for something that's kind of laid back - like a beach condo, or visiting a national park or something.
I'd planned on taking them to Carlsbad Caverns to mess around later this week, but the hotels that arent gross, are booked solid. Onto plan B. Any suggestions? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

Drive another hour from carlsbad into Cloudcroft. Gorgeous mountain town, and friendly people. Very nice in the heat of summer. You can always hit up the sand dunes of white sands as an excursion, and make it back to cloudcroft for dinner, and you could do the same for carlsbad caverns.

It will be a drive from where you are, but we had one of the best family vacations by renting a house on Crystal Beach, across from the bay from Galveston. We spent a week and didn't do much but frolic on the beach.

If you want to stay closer, Granbury is fun and just build a very nice white sand beach.
There are bed-and-breakfasts right across the street.

My all time favorite. . .Garner State Park. . . not sure how far of a drive it is for you. . . but it comes highly recommended by someone who's spent at least a week there every summer since she was 10. . .

Lost Maples was nice.
Just a few miles south of there is a place called "Foxfire Cabins". They have several houses for rent for a few days and they have cute cabins on the property for rent also. The Frio River and Sabinal River run thru there.

Might want to avoid Cloudcroft. The reminants of Hurricane Dolly really dumped a lot of rain in that area and washed out several bridges, etc.
I was in the area (Sacramento, NM) earlier this month and although the temperatures were very cool (mid 40s at night), it rained every day the whole week. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
