Flattering Email from SHSU, Huntsville - 08-30-2005, 07:25 PM

When i got home today I found an email from a History Prof at Sam Houston State U, http://www.shsu.edu/~his_rtc/ about a picture of mine which I posted on RailPictures a couple of years ago. It is one of my favorite pictures of the Tarantula Steam Engine.

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=32553

It seems he is doing a book on the Contemporary History of Ft. Worth and Tarrant County, which is being produced for a non-profit group, the Tarrant County Historical Society, and asked permission to use the picture. I replied that as long as the picture was not to be used commercially, (outside of the book), it was fine with me. No Charge.

Of course, I don't know if my picture will actually be used, but I am very flattered that a picture of mine is even considered! Especially since I am about as far away from being a professional photographer as one could possibly be!

This used to happen to me occasionally back in '95 when the internet was a baby. Often I was at the top of the search engines if people were looking for Austin or UT pictures. I've been published in some textbooks, with credit, but am as non-professional as they get. Wait, that didn't sound quite right...

Congrats!

Thanks,

I took it from the grassy lawn area alongside of Grapevine Texas, Main St, just across the tracks from the Grapevine Depot.

I took it a couple of years ago with my Sony 707. I did a little bit of PSing to remove a distracting, but proper, trackside 'Derail' sign that was directly in front of the Smokebox, above the front coupler, and I removed some modern looking halogen floodlites that appeared above the tender. I wanted a 'period' view, like it may have really looked, in the actual Steam era.
