Houston Tattoo Artists - 08-03-2008, 03:50 PM

so... who are the best?

my father passed away recently and i'd like to have some ink done in memory of him.

i don't want his face, or anything macabre... just something very happy and colorful. i have some vague ideas, but would need someone to do the art for me.

suggestions? i have one already, but had it done in my college town, not here. i don't particularly want to go back to that guy.

Danny Tarrillo (or Zarrilo or something illo) at Sacred Heard Tattoo on Westheimer just to the east of Montrose.

He did one of my wife's tats and I will be going to him for my next tat.
Very good artist, great personality, and obsessive compulsive about cleanliness (he must have gone through 30 pairs of gloves while doing my wife's art).
Also will give good advice. I watched as he talked a sweet young thing OUT of getting the tat she said she wanted - it would have looked like crap if she ever got pregnant where she wanted it.
He's also been written up in a tat mag (can't remember which).

My husband drove from Dallas to Spring to have his buddy do his. He goes by Oz, but I'll have to find out where he is now. He had been asked to join the Hart & Huntington group but wasn't able to find childcare out there, so had to turn it down. Let me know if you want me to find out more details. He did a good job on my husband's and is just a super nice guy.

Thanks or the tip, Steelsun. I had mine done in Chicago many, many years ago and hadn't found someone trustworthy here. I'll have to check them out.

michael, is he out in this part of town?

i'm in league city but was planning on going down to westheimer to one of the tat parlours that's been there for years. i have heard great things about shaw's.

i am disappointed that my previous work was done by someone who didn't talk me out of getting it on the top of my foot. it's only 8 years old, but it began to lose definition very quickly... i have since learned that the feet are a horrible place to get them!

He's based in Santa Fe...not too far! He can tell you about the best, if you decide not to work with him... :)

Lumpy, that's gorgeous work... is it yours?

I love knowing why people chose to get certain art on their bodies!!!!

I think I have settled on a beginning point for my design. It's a sparrow, with some simple scrolling around it... I'd like to incorporate a few floral elements as well (on the scrolly stuff).
