what's your pocket camera? - 08-06-2008, 12:10 PM

I am looking for a pocket camera with good image quality. What's your pocket camera and why? I am an outdoors person and the thought of taking a DSLR on a dusty camping trip is crazy. I have enough dust on the sensor already.

I use a Canon A510, get some pretty decent stuff out of it.. I really like its macro setting, and you can hack it to shoot in RAW.

(Wish my keyboard wasn't so dusty there, would have looked really cool) :P

I think I saw your stuff on DPReview. I remember the keyboard. Ha! Pretty good at dust shots. How is it in low light?

Do you use a p&s, pocket or a bridge camera? Can you recommend one? There are times a DSLR is not feasable for me.

What do you mean "hack it"?

I use an Olympus Stylus 710, it's splash proof. I 've had no problems with sweat or rain and have dropped it a few times as well. I have used it as a back up on crime scenes. That is to look back up places I can't get my head into!

The trade off is picture quality, I think Sony/Nikon is much better.

Oly 720 for the fun of dropping it into the water or dropping it in general to freak out friends.

I'm really looking at the Olympus E400 (410, 420) series and their 4/3's 25/2.8 - it's tiny and has a nice range of (reported) good Zuiko glass. Yes, it's an SLR but the size really attracts me.
