The opposite of too good to be true - 08-06-2008, 11:05 PM

I was picking up a few snap shots at Ritz Camera today and while I was waiting I was looking at their magazine and they had a special going. Their words exactly:

"An amazing opportunity
Trade in your old camera for a new one
"The Ritz Camera trade in offer"

Example #1
Bring in your old Canon Digital Rebel w/canon 18-55AF and get $75 off instantly. Must be in good working order.

$75 for a Digital Rebel with lens.

Who thinks of this? Who falls for this? What do you think of this?

Depreciation is the word that comes to mind...

and Ritz isn't really going to be offering an "amazing" trade-in deal anyways, so I'm not surprised.

They seem to think so because they are calling it "An Amazing Opportunity The Ritz Camera Trade in Offer"

Its a brick & mortar retail biz. Which means you will rarely find a real deal, you will rarely get an actual discount, you will always pay more for any item than you would online and your choice of items will be limited to what the general hobbyist would go looking for. Sadly, im sure many people will see this $75 offer as "hey thats pretty good!"

exactly my thoughts, people will fall for almost anything and it truly is a shame. I choose not to do business with stores for reasons like this, i would much rather use a locally owned place or the internet

Mostly those who bought their Rebel new and never having taken it off "auto" are unhappy with the results...They reason that a better camera will make better pictures...Thus is born another impulse buy...Ben
