Package is COMPLETE!!! Where to go use it? - 08-10-2008, 05:15 PM

Ok guys, first of all I want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way, you guys are great!!!

little background to sum it all up....

about a year ago I bought an XTi and then sold it a month later, been dying for an SLR ever since. Finally decided to take the dive and get another one.... Here is what I just purchased

slightly used Canon 30D w/ battery grip and 2 batteries
Canon 17-55mm 2.8 w/ hoya filter and lens hood

thats enough for now, guess Ill have to get a memory card, but other than that I think Im gonna hold on on spending any money until I get "used" to everything....

now the fun part, wife and I are thinking of taking this upcoming Friday off and spend the weekend away from the house with the kids before school starts. My son really wants to just stay in a hotel. We were thinking of just going to Dallas somewhere. We really been wanting to go to the Dallas World Aquarium.... thinking that be a nice place to shoot some pictures. Any other ideas for you guys around Dallas to try out my new stuff, but also fun for a 2 and 8 year old?

again, thansk guys for everything. If you have anything to add, feel free. I appreciate any advice, thoughts...

Gosh, but it's expensive. But I guess not to those who take regular trips to Hawaii. It does look like a fun time for the kids.

I just knew it was a cool place, I hadn't actually priced it until now. Ouch!

Maybe the Train ride in Grapevine? http://www.grapevinesteamrailroad.com/index.asp

or lunch/dinner at the Rainforest Cafe?

And Todd, I was going to mention to Megan at work tomorrow about this 24-105 that she needs to suprise you with.....let's do lunch soon! Want to hear if you are doing the HHH this year!

Have some friends that went in together on one of the rooms to keep the price down. It had a bunk room for the kids and the adults shared the rest. They traded out watching the kids as they played in the water.

Yikes! Don't tell her I'm looking at lenses, she'll kill me. I'm still just working part-time.

Not doing the HHH this year; it's been a weird summer for us and will likely be really, really hot this time around.

If you stay in Dallas, check out Hotwire. We had to stay in a hotel last weekend when the A/C went out at our house and got a suite at the Prava Suites next to the Galleria for $45. If you want to venture a littel further out, you might want to check out Glen Rose. There is a nature preserve with exotic animals and the Dinosaur Valley State Park.

The GWL looks really cool. I'd like to go there just to shoot, but they'd probably kick me out.
