Apple Time Capsule: Question - 08-10-2008, 05:34 PM

I need a solid back-up device for my Mac for college.

Is it possible to use the Apple Time Capsule without it being a router? Will it still back up wirelessly? or does it have to be configured as a router in order for the wireless backup?

Imagine a City where graffiti wasn't illegal, a city where everybody could draw whatever they liked. Where every street was awash with a million colors and little phrases. Where standing at a bus stop was never boring. A city that felt like a living breathing thing which belonged to everybody, not just the estate agents and the barons of big business. The power of expression and change has been restored to the people. Imagine a city like that and stop leaning up against the wall. It's wet.

Personally I'd go with a wired solution, wireless will drop at some point, randomly. Doing so in the middle of a backup would be bad news. The cost of external hard disks with enormous amounts of storage space is so low you'd need one very impressive reason not to get one. My friend just went to Fry's and picked up a 1TB external for less than $200. Insane. Anywho, I use SuperDuper! to backup my Macbook Pro, and do so to a 500GB fw800 drive, the first time it takes a while, but after that it's a 10min process. The backed up image gets backed up off-site later to another disk.
