That is absolutely fantastic! I wish you the absolute best. Take good care of your wife during this exciting, and probably a little bit scary, time.

I know there are/were a couple of "Mothers of Multiples" groups in or near Keller (I used to be editor of the newspaper there and we'd list some of their meetings).

Thanks Todd - we did find the "Lake Cities Mothers of Multiples" club, and my wife is really excited to go to one of the meetings. Thanks to everyone for their support too! We are on our way to a long and difficult road - but with many rewards. We go back to the doctor this next week and this will be our first appointment since the "shocking" appointment that we had on Wed - so hopefully we'll have some more info to share. I think that one of the hardest things will be her being in the hospital for 12+ weeks!

We are really excited though - and as I mentioned before, we feel pretty confident that God wouldn't give us more than we can handle (not to say it won't be hard). If at all possible - we don't want to know the sex of any of them until they make their worldly arrival...we know that too is difficult - but we really want it to be a surprise.

All in all we know that we can't do it alone - and we welcome all the support, thoughts and prayers! And for all you photographers, I'm sure we will do several "portfolio" building sessions at home with the three bundle of joys! Thanks again TPF - you all rock!

Jake~

Jake,
Congratulations to you an your wife. You will learn it is not as scary as you now feel. Having triplets FIRST will be easier than you think. I didn't say easy, I said easier than you now think. We had twins first. We believe it was easier than one. Image having triplets with two already running around the house. Yeah having them first is easier than last. In you case it may be first and last, another story.

We had to make a lot of changes as I am sure you are willing to do for this most wonderful time of your life.

One word of caution about multiple groups. This is just our experience with two different multiple groups. We too were told to join these groups, that they would help. So before the birth of our twins we went to some meetings. They were the pits. It seemed to us they were filled with negative, woe is me, the world has caved in on us and we can't get out of it attitude. All they did was to 'cry' about how life had treated them harshly and unfairly. We did not want that kind of attitude and feelings in our life. So we did not go back until after the births because we thought maybe we did not know enough yet. So we went back a few months after Jason and James were born. But it was the same ole thing. We did not go back after that because we were afraid we would wind up feeling the same way. I am sure there are groups that are the best in the world for some people but they were not for us. You will have to judge for yourself.

We wanted to most positive, upbeat, encouraging support we could find. It was not in those groups or some of our family and friends. Pick wisely the people who will surround you and your wife. Those who pour forth unconditional love, unlimited encouragement and willingness to work hard for the benefit of your family. You will do unbelievably well and who knows you will be recommending triplets to others and a way to have babies.

God Bless you as you journey down by far the most exciting path a couple can travel.

Thanks Michael for the tips...it's always to hear different views on things and we definitely need to check it our for our own sanity. We do have a lot of family that will become our pillar of strength and support during all this. As well, I have a 12 year old son, Alex that lives with us and will become a big brother and a big help too! He is excited, well...about as excited as 12 year old boy can be! Anyhow - thanks again Michael, I'll have to let know what we find out after a meeting or two!

Jake,

I told my wife yesterday that you were having triplets. She was so excited for the both of you. I also told her I had wrote about our experience with "Multiple Groups". She got mad at me because a lot has changed in the intervening 23 years. So she proceeded to educate me, because she has stayed up with things like this and I have not. 22 years ago; Wow that sounds like a long time ago.

When we went, most of the moms there were older women having multiples later in life which is what happens to older women because they put out multiple eggs in their later fertile years. They already had 3, 4, 5 kids and now they were getting TWO more when they thought they were already finished. Which you can understand would lead to a lot of pessimistic feelings.

Now however, with IVF and such, there are very young women, with money, and lots of support, eager to have any kids at all, no matter what kind of bunches they come in. Multiple births are up, way up in the last 10-15 years because of your very situation. They are not pessimistic parents but eager for the challenge. And loving every moment. They have tons of support from family, friends and have the money to hire help.

So a lot of what drove negative pessimistic feelings about the multiple birth is diminished. My wife wanted me to clarify my comments to you. We both pray and ask for God's blessings for the two of you. There are many joys and challenges that are yours to come. If we can help in any way, just ask.
