Alaska, hands down. But it's not a fall destination.

I agree about Alaska but why not fall? We went in October and had a blast. Spent 10 days on Kodiak.

Two weeks in Bhutan this past April. Nothing like the foothills of the Himalayas to make you feel the power of nature.

I suppose as long as you go with the understanding that since you're so far north, the daylight is a lot shorter than down here in Texas, it would be fine. The weather in the south is still good, kinda like Seattle/Vancouver weather.

I was in Alaska for 2 weeks at the end of July. It was 40 degrees and light rain the whole time. This was colder and wetter than they are used to up there. Of course, we were backpacking in the Alaskan range so I was ready to get warm and dry when the trek was over. Here's a pic of the beginning of our trek.

Ireland. It's lush and gorgeous, cosmopolitan and quaint at the same time. It's also incredibly picturesque. My husband and I spent about 2 weeks there driving along the Southern coast. I'd love to go back and spend more time in fewer places.

Oh, and I can tell you that it will be colder than you think...but they don't get snow because they have a gulf stream from us!

Best vacation ever? hmm . . .. Europe. I know the weakness of the dollar v euro might kick this one off the possiblity list . .but . . .

We went for 18 days . . landed in Germany, and just made a big loop of Western Europe . .. Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, England, Belgium . . .and seems like I'm missing one . . anyway, we rented a Mercedes (they're cheap over there) and drove ourselves around. BEST THING EVER!! We went where we wanted, when we wanted, and we stayed in a hotel one night . .. the rest of the time it was small bed and breakfast places with real atmosphere, and where the families we met there (both owners and guests) were more than happy to share stories and information about their lives and culture. No matter where you travel, my personal opinion is that B&Bs are the way to go.

France, and specifically the Paris area was my favorite of the whole trip. People always ask "were they rude?" and the answer is no, except for the one time we think we accidentally made a rude gesture at the driver of a car next to us! (in our defense, we didn't know it was rude)

All my other top vactions have a lot more to do with the person or people I went with than the actual location.

Wherever you go, have fun =)

-Cindy

Three weeks in the south of France and Camerone with the Legion that year.

Best vacation was 3 weeks in Italy. We found a great little place that was very local. The owner spoke some English and I spoke some Italian. We managed pretty well. With meals and room we got out for 1800.00. We took a few over night trips through out Italy and Switzerland. We used our hotel points to stay on the over night trips for free. 500.00 for a 4 day train pass. All in all our trip was under 3k. The place in Italy is on a vineyard and farm. The owner has some nice (nothing fancy) apt that he rents out. There is a restaurant that is down stairs from the apartments and just about every one in the town comes to eat out there. Lots of fun and you get to meet a lot of the locals. By the end of our trip we had people stopping and giving us a ride back to the apartments and buying drinks at the local pub. Was a great chance to really see how other people live and enjoy live.

If you want to just relax, drink, eat, and dive. No question about it. The Sandals was the next best 7 night stay I have every had. Royals picked us up at the airport and brought us to the resort. We had a butler that took care of anything we wanted. Great trip. Not cheap but a great way to relax and not worry about a thing.

If I can talk my wife into it. I want to go to a place where you work for 4 or 5 hours a day on the farm or what have you. This is a great way to spend 2-5 weeks over seas. I found a guy in Ireland that is a nature photographer and wants some one to help with his PP work and some odd jobs around the house. For working you get a place to stay usually an apartment style room separate from the house and usually meals are included. Best part about the trip is getting to see how the locals live and what it really means to live in that part of the world. http://www.helpx.net/

We spent a great vacation in Venezuela past December! Angel Falls was one of the most beautiful things that we have ever seen in our lives.

Yellowstone National Park - 08-19-2008, 08:06 PM

Spent a week up there last fall at the end of September. Gorgeous scenery, hiking, hot springs, and lots of animals to photograph. Going back for 2 weeks this year - leaving in less than 5 weeks!
