"Its NOT a camera, its a NIKON!" - 08-23-2008, 09:35 AM

Just got my new P80 camera for work (replacing a floppy disk using Sony Mavica), and it reminded me of this line from a movie. What movie and character used this line: "Its NOT a camera, its a NIKON!".

I can't believe a Sony Mavica lasted this long.

I bought one -- I think it was in 1996 or 97 ---- $1,100.

Unbelievable.

From Answers.com

In the film "Gotcha!" Jonathan (Anthony Edwards) borrows his father's Nikon SLR. His father is agitated that Jonathan refers to it as simply a "camera" and tells him, "It's not a camera, it's a Nikon."

There are a bunch of Nikon quotes from TV and the movies...

The character of 'Lord Nikon' played by Laurence Mason in the movie "Hackers" is inspired by the company name, and the company logos are also imitated in the movie.

In the film "Death Wish 3", the character of Paul Kersey, (played by actor Charles Bronson), successfully lures a criminal into the open by using an expensive Nikon camera as bait. The criminal steals the camera and is immediately shot by Paul Kersey.

The lead character in Brewster McCloud steals a brand new Nikon F from a Houston, Texas camera store, which he then uses to photograph exotic birds at the Houston Zoo.

In the James Bond film "Diamonds Are Forever", the hitmen, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd are seen with a Nikon F.

In the television series CSI and NCIS, Nikon is the only camera featured.

In the movie "Superman Returns", the character of Jimmy Olsen uses a Nikon digital SLR, the D2X, to photograph Superman 'rescuing' the globe atop the Daily Planet building.

In the movie "Spider-Man 3", the character of Eddie Brock, Jr. who becomes 'Venom', uses a Nikon as his main camera.

In the movie "Hot Fuzz", Timothy Messenger uses a Nikon camera to take a picture of police officer Nicholas Angel.

In Stanley Kubrick's movie, "Full Metal Jacket", the Nikon F and Fm were used.

A "Nikon camera" occurs in the lyrics to:

the Paul Simon song "Kodachrome" (Kodachrome / They give us those nice bright colors / They give us the greens of summers / Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah / I got a Nikon camera / I love to take a photograph / So mama don't take my Kodachrome away)

the Oak Ridge Boys song "American-Made" (Seems everything I buy these days / Has got a foreign name / From the kind of car I drive / To my video game / I got a Nikon camera / A Sony color TV / But the one that I love is from the U.S.A. / And standing next to me)

---------------------------
Regards,
Patti

Who?

It's hard to find (in a local store) and there's only one place in the country that still processes it, but Kodachrome is alive and available.

So how do you like the P80? I don't personally know anyone that owns one, but it's gotten pretty good press.
