Question for computer/internet geeks - 08-28-2008, 09:26 PM

I am looking for software that will allow live streaming of audio only on the internet for a project I'm working on. Has anyone had any experience with any of these software packages?

Also, if you've had experience with any of the online services that offer streaming, let me know as well.

Thanks!

I think that winamp will still allow you to set up "channels" I never really had anything to broadcast, but I did get it up and running prior to football season one year, as I was going to use a directional wireless set up and upload the audio of the games over the internet. Never came to fruition, but I had all the resources to make it happen.

Streaming to how many people? Typically, there are services that will either multi-cast or retransmit a feed on a larger pipe if it's needed for a large audience.

If you are talking about a peer to peer type of stream, there are many apps (like Winamp) that will allow you to do it. It's been quite some time since I have looked into such things... Shoutcast and the like were what I was familiar with, but that was many years ago. I bet there are all kinds of shareware and/or open source applications that will do it now. If I get a chance to do some digging around, I'll let you know.

Good luck!
