I titled this thread because I really wasn't sure what to title a thread that basically says....



I AM EXCITED ABOUT MONDAY!!!!!!!

Not only is it a day off for Labor Day,
But also....

OPENING OF DOVE SEASON!

And football is getting into full swing, and the weather is starting to cool down, and the Holiday season is right around the corner...

I love the Fall in this part of the world. It reminds me how grateful I am to be alive!

Anybody else think that Fall is the greatest season ever! What is awesome is that we get one every single year!

what is dove season? my favorite season is summer, but fall is my very close second. I love halloween and when the leaves fall and the air is crisp but not freezing. oh, and I love football.

"Dove season" is the hunting season for a migratory bird here in Texas. In the "North" zone (anything North of I-20 to Fort Worth and from there I-30 to Texarkana) the season starts every year on 1 September. We don't really have too many deer up this way (There is not even a deer season in Lubbock Co.) so the start of Dove season in this part of the world is a much anticipated event for those that like to hunt birds.

Some people don't really like the taste of the dove, but personally I love it.

My favorite recipe to date, is to take a dove, and a third to a half of a jalepeno between the breast, and wrap that with a piece of thick sliced peppered bacon. Skewer it and then slow cook it on the grill until the bacon gets crispy.

If you get four or five hunters who limit out on two consecutive days, you will have enough dove to have a nice little party the following weekend, or it will make for great tailgating fare on those chilly October saturday afternoons prior to a football game!

I really do like this time of year, not the least of which because the late afternoon sun at this time of year is just that much more rich than the rest of the year! (to bring the discussion back to photography)

Did I miss fall again ? I don't exactly know where Slaton is. Here in Fort Worth we have one or two days of fall, then it's winter for a month, then spring for a day or two, and then the other 335 days it's just hotter than blazes.

Slaton is up by Lubbock... and yes it is still hot up here also. We do however have an actual fall season, and I have spent time enough in the metroplex, as well as down in Central Texas to know that ya'll really don't have one.

It's a glorious time of year when the nights start falling into the fifties and forties, and the bugs go into hiding, yet still is warm enough outside to run around in a t-shirt if you want to.

So I don't think you missed fall yet, but if you sleep late on Saturday's you just might.

Oh, it's whitewing season in the Valley as well.....

but I have to wait a whole week (it feels like Christmas -- does time ever pass so slowly??!??)
