iPhone 3g battery life. - 08-30-2008, 12:09 AM

Any other iPhone 3G users out there that can comment on the battery life? In order to actually be able to use the thing over 1.5 hours, you have to change many things and disable features. I'm very disappointed - I have to keep my screen brightness down to about 5-10%

A quote:

"Wait... turn off 3G, turn down the screen brightness, don't use GPS too much, turn off push mail, don't use 3D apps too much... so basically, in order to obtain the maximum battery life as stated by Apple, try not to use the features that are new to 3G.

Um, okay."

Yeah the new phone uses more battery than the old phone. Living life on the digital edge has its sacrifices, we used to call it living on the bleeding edge. My charge usually lasts about 36 hours. I don't play a lot of games but I do browse the Internet a lot, I use 3G all day and play music all day on the iPod feature. I do have charge cords at home, work and in the car.

Nick, my son has one and he loves it. I am also getting ready to buy one.
He tells me that it fits nicely for him. He has a charger at the office, or charges on his way home (car charger). He's at 20% after using it for 10 hours.

My iPhone 3G consistently lasts about 36 hours. I have push email (Excrunge ActiveSync) and 3G turned on all the time. I listen to the iPod a couple hours at work each day and surf the web on it an hour or two each day. All in all I'm quite happy with the battery life.

I have a car charger and charge it on my way to and from work. Then I'll usually charge it on a computer once during the weekend.

I usually charge mine once a day, at night while I'm syncing. If I need a charge in the middle of the day I have a car charger. But so far I love the 3G. It's not made for serious web surfing, for that I still take my laptop places, but it is very useful for checking email quickly and the "FS:" forums here and there for great deals posted throughout the day. While I can almost watch the battery meter drain as I use the 3G network, I was surprised at how little the iPod feature uses the battery. Also lots of messaging uses the battery pretty quickly.
I wonder if battery lives vary from unit to unit...

I use heavy maps, web & email, and it does drain alot faster than my Blackberry did.

I got a third party charging system for it (wall, car & FM transmitter) for about $20 at http://www.hdaccessory.com/servlet/P...gory-iphone-3g

Angelo,
How are you? I picked one up for Jennifer (my wife) last night. The battery life is one of her concerns so I hope it will last through the day.

i love mine....the first day the battery went pretty fast cause i was messing with all the features...but ive gotten to where it's not too bad...by not too bad, i mean, it isn't inconvenient... I have a car charger...and i just bring my wall charger with me every day in my purse. basicall the usb cord has 2 end connections, one for the car, and one for the wall...so i just have them with me at all times. I still use my ipod at work, rather than listening to music on the phone, and the charger helps with that too... but i havent had to charge it during the day lately
