I woke up to find that my car had been broken into and my equipment stolen.
They took one bag worth about 5 Grand.
D300 and battery grip
70-200 2.8 vr
Countless memory card
Hyperspace Colorspace Harddive
SB600
Tamron 28-75 2.8
lowepro Slingshot 300 bag
my rocket blower :(
And they also stole my GPS.
They stole my wallet as well yet they didn't take any of the credit cards. A friend of mine found it almost thrown down the drain. Hopefully the insurace will reclaim all of it. I am just in shock right now. I dont know what to do.

Adam - I feel for ya, bud. I can only imagine how "violated" one must feel after having their personal possessions stolen. Kinda surprised that they threw the credit cards away. They could have done some serious damage to your credit.
Forgive me, but I have to ask..... why would you leave your gear in your car overnight?

By the time i was done it was dark and I was ready to relax. I usually lock everything but must have slipped my mind. It is one of those things that two or three things happened that shouldn't have.

I know how you feel -- never have had anything stolen out of my truck, but every now and then I do something like leave my wallet sitting on the dash or leave my camera in my truck.
Keep an eye out on craigslist and ebay -- a friend of mine from another website had his guitars stolen and found them within a week on ebay.

Had my place broken into Aug 5th. Fortunately I had my camera and most equipment in my car (how ironic) that day. I feel for you. I hate to sound negative but good luck with police cooperation in helping you. I have a good idea of who was behind my robbery but the cops won't look into it and neither will security at the cable company that the two guys work for.
The good thing is that you've got ins. I didn't have any.

Man, really sorry to hear that...I'd be looking on eBay and Craigslist as I doubt most pawn shops would accept such high value equipment
Insurance should cover most if not all, but I know that doesn't do anything for how you feel right now

I dont have insurance on the camera specifically. I was going to get that this week. All I have is homeowners insurance. I dont know how the deductable works though? The deductable for our homeowners is about 4250 (but that is 2% of the house value). I dont know what the deductable is for the property. Anyone know how this works? I also had the serial numbers from the boxes. Only one I didn't have as the grip. I think it was some stupid teenagers. I have half a mind to sit out there and watch for the next week and use my other car as bait.

Unfortunately we are at the mercy of a variety of low-life individuals including opportunists, entitled and mischieveous youth, drug addicts, career thieves, homeless types, and who knows what other elements roam our country. A few people manage to dodge these miscreants all or most of their lives, some are careful and observant and manage loss, some can afford the security to foil the criminal element, some have insurance and hope for the best. A few folks do a little of all of these things and I'm afraid it's all become an unfortunate and necessary defense.
When people work hard for the things that they have, the precautions never help when a violation is suffered and people finds themselves in your position. Maybe you'll be one of the fortunate few that has your property returned. Good luck.
Sorry to hear of the violation you've experienced. Hope things work out well for you. Take the precautions necessary now so that you don't become an easy mark as misfortune apparently can strike twice, and more depending on the area and the crooks.

I know the cow is already out of the the proverbial barn, but insurance for your gear is cheap!
I added mine to my homeowners policy as listed equipment -- it cost me $54 a year for $6,000 worth of gear.
Then I gota $50 discount for multi-line coverage =
= Total cost $4 | | | |

Insurance replaced them all and I think our deductible was $500. Check your policy but I know it's not based on home value... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
