Want to Share

Hello my TPF family,
Just wanted to share with everyone that I have been asked to shoot for a local magazine here in the Virginia area on a "Part Time" basis right now because my "Full Time" job really pays the bills.

However this particular publisher currently is printing 3 different magazines monthly and quarterly both Richmond wide and Regional wide and any of the shots I take could be in either of these magazines and the best part about it all is ITS A PAID POSITION. Although it doesn't seem like a whole lot on paper ($30 per photo used) I look at the potential of getting my name out there and hopefully getting more business as well. :) :).....

Also they allow the photographers to hand out business cards while on assignment which could potentially bring me more business to that I can hopefully SOON quit my "REAL JOB" and do the passion that I love which is Photography.

I know I could not have done it without being a part of this great forum and all the help and comments I have received from everyone here has made me a better photographer.

THANKS TO YOU ALL and I will keep you all updated but just wanted to share in my excitement.

Shane,
You know I didnt think to ask those questions but can find out. I still don't think it is that bad a deal and maybe I am blind to it, but the potential of the future business is what I look to gain from it.

I don't know if it's a bad deal or not either. The circulation and ad rate is really the only way to tell.

I think this is a good opportunity for you to find out if you have "The Right Stuff" for a life as a photojournalist or commercial photographer.
It is a small amount to earn per photo, and if you start appearing in their mags on a regular basis I'd advise you renegotiate to something closer to industry rates.
But you have to get your foot in the door.
Market yourself wisely.
