Can anyone tell me how the Nikon D2H compares to the Canon XTi? - 09-06-2008, 11:09 AM

I know it's a sin, but lately I have thought about dabbling w/ Nikon. Striaght to the point? Somone wants to trade me a Nikon D2H for my Rebel XTi, and I am curious how even that trade would be? It's a smaller MP, but a more professional camera...

Opinions appreciated.

I don't know- that's a tough one! I think I'd be more inclined to go for it just because it's a much more robust camera than the Rebel (plus I'm a Nikon man anyways). You gain all those pro niceties like weather sealing, hardcore body that can take more of a beating, speed in AF and fps- but does all that matter to you? Your low light exposures will be dramatically different with the D2H. Also do you have a load of Canon lenses that you are going to have to sell/trade?

And keep in mind- it's a 5 year old camera at this point- a digital dinosaur (unfortunately).

Think of a D2H as a slightly newer 1D Mark I.

I'd recommend trying it, at least. Pro bodies are worth their weight.

All I can say is you'd have to pry my D2H from my cold, blood covered hands.

I just purchased a used D2H and it has become my primary body (I shoot mainly college football and soccer -- no flash allowed). I now look at the D200 as slowing me down; it has it's uses but I have to say that if you shoot sports you are going to love a D2H. It does have noisy upper ISOs, but I find ISO3200 'acceptable' after post.

And, as was said previously, it is built like a tank.

Now all I want is a D300 to partner it...

Bottom line, unless you have a large investment in white Canon lenses, go for it!

D2H blows the XTi out of the water.

The only area the XTi might have an advantage is in ISO values above 800.
