This is going to one very big powerful storm. I hope everyone near it takes it seriously. I am inland but am taking steps to be prepared if it should come up through the SA area.

If you're in North Texas and interested in volunteering to help out evacuees, check out this website periodically for updates: http://www.volunteernorthtexas.org/V...ter+Relief.htm
Nothing there right now, but I suppose plans will become more solid in the coming days.

Look like it will be going to the Corpus Christi to Matagorda Bay area so if your in that area on the coastline please think about moving to higher ground. We are about 50 miles East up the coastline towards Galveston so most of my family is leaving today just to be on the safe side of things but myself and Suzy are staying to ride it out.

While I'm concerned for our brothers and sisters in the south part of the state (please be careful!), I'm kind of looking forward to getting more rain up here.

I feel sorry for the folks on the coast. This could be a strong Cat 3 when it hits... but we need some rain over here!!! Flood one year... dry up the next.

I'm supposed to be taking 27 Boy Scouts camping this weekend. Hmmm, probably will want to cancel that.

I am on a team from the VA for medical evac from the coast. If the hospitals down south have their stuff together we might be receiving planes as early as today. However for Gustav they waited too long and we didnt get any medical flights that weekend. This will be another weekend of hurry up and wait..

a word of advise: please check the local maps for evacuation. Counter to most thinking (or lack thereof), most of SW, W, NW and N Houston/Harris is NOT in the evacuation areas. If you aren't in an evacuation area or aren't told to do so, please stay off the roads.
FWIW, regardless of where it comes, in my area (Cypress/Tomball) isn't in any evacuation area and shouldn't receive anything more than TS force winds unless it comes on land above Cat 4. TS winds can hurl a pine cone thru a window pretty easily, and pine limbs will fall like rain, so I still may board up the more exposed windows. But it won't do much more than that.
Tornades, well, that's another story but planning for those is a bit more difficult. If a tornado hits, the boarded up windows may be the only thing left......
but stay put.
Tonight I clean the gutters and pump filters, they're overdue anyway. Tomorrow, well, I'll wait until tomorrow to see.
I looks like most of the folks in this thread so far are not in any danger at all, Ben may get a bunch of rain.
Mike is probably watching closer than most, however......stay safe, Mike and have a plan for somewhere to go. Chances are you'll get the lion's share of the dirty side.
