weekend in NYC - 09-19-2008, 02:47 PM

i'm in NYC for the weekend. Weather is terrific. Saw Gypsy and All MY SONS ( tom cruise and dustin Hoffman were in the audience).
Went to B&H store today and spent some money. Went to the Center for photography.

There is a photo shoot going on in the hotel for a new brochure. I'm helping them get it right (not)..........

Tom, don't know how long you're there or how often you've been but the best deal in town is through a non-profit called Big Apple Tours. Usually have to set it up in advance but they'll match you with a volunteer who will spend about 1/2 a day showing you the non-touristy sites based on your interests; i.e., architecture, politics, ethnic groups, etc. There's no charge (you can't even tip or by them lunch) and you get a weekend Metro pass good for the subway, buses and train! Google them to find their website.

Poor focus behind the camera creates as many bad photos as poor focus through the camera!

Don't forget to run down to Canal St. and pick up that Breitling watch you wanted.

Terry - hadn't heard about them, but next trip I will definitely check it out.

David - maybe, maybe not. Was in the diamond district yesterday and actually looked at the real thing $$$$$$$

Jeremiah - I bought a Tamrac rolling strong box. It's being delivered to Tx. and no sales tax. The same as ordering through internet, but you get to play with all the toys in the store when you are here. No sign of the 50D or any word of the 5DS yet but they'll have one first ..... It's a mad house in there, but a wonderful feeling of being in the center of the photo equipment world. And much different from my past experiences at other photo stores, they are extremely friendly and helpful. They know you aren't going somewhere else to buy. There are salesmen everywhere. Mine specialized in professional camera bags and cases.
The cashier said " your're a long way from home" and I said " No, I think this store is home".......
