Don't get me wrong. I'm very grateful for electricity, cable, broadband, etc.. In comparison to a lot of Houston folks I'm in great shape. But....

Did hurricane Ike dump like a million more cars on Houston freeways or what? I understand the side streets w/o signals but I'm not sure how that translates to the freeways.

Nope... The HOV lanes were shut down. And are again today. The only one that was open this morning was on I-45. It's gonna be a nightmare again today!

Yeah, one of my co-workers came from the Compaq area to the Galleria. 2.5 hours. I think she was ready to shoot somebody.

Ouch! Cypress to Sugar Land this morning was 45 minutes for me down Highway 6. Going home won't be that good...

Edit: this was at 6am...

I lived in South Florida, about 50 miles north of Miami, when Hurricane Andrew hit back in 1992. The hurricane wiped out pretty much everything on the south side of Miami. So, everyone who lived down south, had to temporarily move up to the north side of Miami, while their homes were being repaired. This created massive traffic jams for months. Normally, it would take me about one hour to drive to the airport. But after the hurricane, it would routinely take two hours.

I feel sorry for everyone in the Houston area, because I suspect it will be quite a while before things get back to "normal".

Good luck

You're not kidding! I spent a week in Houston, back in 1982, looking for work. It was a mess back then!

More and more companies need to embrace telecommuting. It is the 21st century after all. That would do wonders for the highways and air quality.
