If it's running Linux it may be a Sun, HP or IBM server. I work for HP and we design Unix servers here in Richardson that have up to 64 Intel dual-core processors or 128 total cores. Pretty cool machines!

The only problem is that you may need to write a check for a seven figure amount to get one of these. Especially if you load up on memory up the maximum of 2 Tbytes.

If you're on a budget you can get a zippy HP ProLiant DL785 G5 server that will give you 32 cores of processing power. And it won't break the bank!

It is running redhat and going to be used for image processing, number crunching. this is just base test model. If test gets oked then we will have this with much more memory and disks etc..
this are quad cpus.

I don't think windows will even recognize this many cpu it will spook out and photoshop is not made for linux.

I thought the NT kernel should be able to run multi CPU parallel?

I've got a few servers I manage that have 6-8 quad-core processors in them. (All running redhat enterprise.) The boxes are very popular with our customers because RedHat doesn't do cpu-based licensing. They've really started moving their big stuff onto the linux boxes because of this.

That is right. we have already moved all our servers to Linux.

Are y'all running RHEL4 or 5? I've just started putting the new servers on 5, and I like it so far. Yum is really nice.

We have 12-15000 2 GHz nodes in our data center along with 8-10 petabytes of online storage. Each node had at least 4GB memory.

We do not have enough computer horsepower for the work that needs to be done. Users are always complaining about having to manage disk resources rather than doing "real production" work.
