I still have 2 very large mounds of former trees in front of my house.....

Seriously, most is in the clean up phase and things that would be good subjects are generally off limits to the public anyway due to health and saftey concerns. You must show proof of address to get onto Galveston Island for example, iirc.

side note: they start charging tolls again Saturday on all the toll roads! Halleluia! When it is free all the rif-raf clogs it up for us more deserving folks.....

Today was the first day in our neighborhood that we got a glimpse of hope that some of us might be able to rebuild. They started to remove some of the debris, well now it's debris, for most of us it was everything we owned. We were one of the few fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it) to still have a structure standing. There is still lots of destruction in the area but the police aren't letting anybody in unless you live here, and they are checking ids'.

This is where the water was on Fri. morning at the bottom of our drive way. Name: photo.jpg

Back when I had the best job that never paid me, I worked one job that caught a number of families by surprise on what floods and what does not. Sorry for your loss! Those photos brought back so many memories of days without air conditioning, living in Red Cross shelters, and the amazing destruction of natural forces. Water lines on the walls, washed up debris on children's toys, cars submerged. But...

I admire the spirit of those like you who acknowledge the 'glimpse of hope' no matter how obscured! Our prayers continue for you! Please let us know if there is some way we can help! And keep shooting!

At least their miniblinds made it. Those are deceptively expensive.

Thank you Peter for your heartfelt response. We have almost completed the debris removal and "mitigating" the damage. The destruction absolutely takes your breath away, it's like someone dropped a bomb in the middle of our neighborhood. Fema however thinks our home is still "livable" The insurance is replacing everything to the 8 ft level which helps because we heard they were only going 4ft. We haven't heard from our homeowners insurance but according to them were on the fast track.

I didn't mean to hijack your thread Stanford, if you do come to the area and want to come to our neighborhood pm and I'll get you in.-Dora
