Abel, thanks for banning political discussions here! - 09-27-2008, 04:08 AM

I got bored a couple of days ago and started looking through some blog entries on a totally non-political web site I frequent. One of the entries contained a list of why we haven't been back to the moon. There was a reason that mentioned President Bush and another that mentioned congress. They were humorous and weren't, as far as I can tell, made with any political bias. The very first comment from readers started with a slap at liberals for the attack on Bush. A war of words was the result.

I am thankful that there is at least one place on the web where you can go and not have to put up with it.

I moderate a board that includes quite a bit of political talk...Much of my time these days is spent sweeping out the trash there...I can't wait for November 5...Ben

I moderate one as well... a high school alumni board... so there are multiple generations there... but this time around, they have been extremely civil and rational in a way that I wish Congress could be... expressing different views without the name calling. I know it usually doesn't work that way, and I check it regularly to make sure its not out of hand. Boy, it takes a lot of energy.

I can't stand reading the comments on "news" websites. It doesn't matter what the story is about, you can count on the first comment to be political.
It could be weather related, entertainment related, or anything and the comments will turn into a political debate.
And the people that do comment are some of the most mis-informed idiots ever.

Since it's the truth, it's far from anything political.

Agreed 100%

But if it happens here, in the private sector, it is not censorship. Freedom of speech only guarantees you can speak. It does not guarantee you the right to be heard or for you to be provided a forum, so to speak.

I am very political but it is fun to get away from it from time to time.
