Buffalo NY FALL COLORS suggestions

Husband is from Buffalo. We will have Oct 8,9,10 free to do some driving for some 'fall colors'.

He wants to drive the southern edge of Lake Ontario. .. We are aware there are better areas of the state for spectacular colors however, due to the short time frame we have we want to stick close to Buffalo and go out no farther east than Syracuse, Oswego that sort of thing

Any comments?

Surely someone here on TPF is either FROM Buffalo or knows the area well enough for suggestions. I will post this in OPEN TALK and under LANDSCAPES just to get as much feedback as I can.

We plan to stay 1 or 2 nights in hotels along the way, and then head back to home base of Buffalo late friday .

just west of buffalo near the PA line on highway 20 are lots of vineyards of course they aren't going to give you the colors as much as the trees but they should blend in well with what color you can find. I was just in southern NH this last week and the trees are running behind this year due to a warm wet spell. If you can get down Central PA in the higher elevations such as across I-80 the colors are looking pretty nice.
