Ran across this the other day and thought it worthwhile to pass along for those that haven't heard of such a device (mainly used by criminals and locksmiths).

I will be sure to have my shotgun ready by the door who try to break in my place.

I've seen this float around the internet for years, luckily enough for me I am a very light sleeper the slightest movement or sound wakes me up. It is a curse in alot of ways but at the same time being a father of 2 I am kinda thankful for it.

Changing your locks to something more expensive and complicated isn't the only thing you can do. You can make all sorts of custom little tricks for your door for when you go to sleep at night. The old setting the glass bottle on the knob, obviously setting house alarm, or investing in a well trained dog... or even an annoying ankle biter that barks at its own shadows.

Not as easy as it sounds, and only works on some locks.
Get a 2 sided lock (like many car keys are) and it will not work. Also the "side" locks are good (where the key is sideways to go in).

But 99.9% of criminals do not bother with picking a lock. A towel (for silence) and a rock to break a window pane is quick and easy. Or a crowbar (many older doors and locks can quickly be pried open)

I just make my wife sit up all night with a shotgun. Of course, I hire an off duty cop to sit and watch my wife.

The only time my gun store was burglarized they pryed the rear door open at the bottom enough for some skinny crackhead to worm his way in...He then took the crossbar off and opened the door for everyone else...Then the alarm was activated and in less than four minutes they were gone with 52 guns worth $40,000.00 wholesale...

They had evidently been there and checked it out because they knew the door sensor was at the top and they knew where the most expensive guns were...The deputies responded within four minutes but it was too late...Afterwards we installed double security doors at the rear exit with extra sensors...Bottom line: wherever your weakest point is, they'll find it...

To this day, none of the guns have turned up nationwide and the case remains unsolved......Ben

Are you guys home 24/7? LOL

Wonder how insurance deals with this since it looks like you left the door unlocked and it's impossible to prove otherwise. Basically, no forced entry.

Don't forget - it's illegal to booby trap your own home in Texas.

So just buy a ton of swords, have nice hangers above each door for them, and then balance them precariously on the hangers, so opening the door will cause them to "accidentally" fall and decapitate the turd trying to B&E.
There can be only one!
