This looks like a good opportunity for my question...Being relatively new to digital photography, I don't own any version of PhotoShop...What little editing I've done has been with Picasa and MS Paint...For my first purchase what version should I buy and where should I buy it...I notice it's available right here in the "company store"...If this is a desireable version, I'd like to help this website by buying it here...Opinions?...Ben

If you want the latest and greatest, Photoshop CS4 is on the horizon. If you don't know Photoshop and are at all wondering if you even need it, buy Photoshop Elements 6 for a fraction of the price. For beginners, the functionality is similar but without some of the bells and whistles. For basics, it's a great, cheap way to start.

For the record, I feel the need to upgrade really soon. Considering the Photoshop 5.5 I'm using was created before digital photography became ubiquitous, it's kind of a stone-age version.

Good advice, thanks...It seems that every time I buy a no-frills version of anything, I wind up wishing I had sprung for the deluxe version...Given that, I'm still really reluctant to plunk down $2500.00 for CS4 as shown on the Adobe website...Ben

Now you know why I've got Photoshop 5!

Elements is about $100 or less. Probably worth it to test the waters.
